last Christmas...

...I gave you my heart. In the form of a blog. I still can't believe that last year at this time I was just starting to blog. I feel like it's been so much longer than that.
One of the great things about having a blog is being able to look back at what you were thinking/feeling/doing a year ago.
So here's what I was doing last year at Christmastime:

doing my first ever chalkboard project

decorating my home

CIMG5178
making a tree topper

trying out bangs

spending time with my crazy family

learning to use my new camera

and eating lots of clementines.

Excited to see what this year will hold!

thinking ahead & a giveaway

Every year, I have to fight the urge to buy cute Christmas pillows from Target.
But this year, I'm prepared.
I spent $7.75 this summer on three pillows so that I'm not tempted to spend $24.99 on one pillow right now.

I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw last years reindeer sweater pillows from Target while thrifting.
For $2 a pop, I got two brand new Christmas pillows.
I had almost purchased these last year, but the $24.99 price tag had deterred me.

The pillow with the big bow reminded me of a present. I picked it up on a clearance end cap at Target in late summer/early fall and thought it would be a perfect addition for Christmas.
I never used to be a 'buy-it-now-to-save-money-later' kind of girl, but I'm slowly becoming one. I was also excited when I pulled out my winter clothes to find several pairs of new tights that I had gotten for $1 at the j.crew sale.
I always thank myself later when I think ahead.

So in keeping with the trend, I wanted to giveway a quintessential fall decor item from my shop that you could win and save for next year to be excited about.

self-timer

Today I'm thankful for self-timers on cameras. When you don't have someone handy to take your pictures or money to hire a photographer, self-timer is your best friend.

When we took our Christmas photo this weekend, we also took a few just-for-fun photos.

We were sort of channeling this lovely photoshoot. What can we say, we heart plaid. Pinned Image

decisions, decisions

Can you believe the Christmas season officially begins this Friday?!
It always sneaks up on me.
So I have to be intentional about my Christmas cards or they don't happen.
I'm actually on track this year though - we took our Christmas photo this weekend!

I love receiving Christmas cards - especially ones with photos. It's fun to see how my friends and their families change from year to year.

There are so many great Christmas card designs where all you need to do is pop in a photo.
I'm especially loving these options from Tinyprints.
Christmas Cards Banner of Dreams - Front : White

Christmas Cards Wreathed Charm - Front : Willow

Christmas Cards Holiday Sweethearts - Front : Bright Red

Christmas Cards Bright Patterns - Front : Goldenrod

I'm also trying to decide which one of these fun Christmas card display ideas to go with this year:

So, do you actually get your Christmas cards out on time?
It actually might happen for me this year!

thrifty chic

I never know what to call my vintage/eclectic/classy/farmhouse decorating style.
Well, on our recent coffee/reading date to Barnes & Noble, I flipped through a book called Thrifty Chic by Liz Bauwen.
I think I found my answer.

tempting collections

My dreams are plagued by these two images:

Specifically of having a kitchen big enough to hold both of these collections.

My dreams are influencing my etsy shop:
Set of 3 Vintage Floral Milkglass Mugs

Vintage Navy Blue Bundt Pan

Set of 4 Vintage Coffee Mugs - Rise and Shine Rooster

Vintage Yellow Gradient Bundt Pan

Set of 6 Vintage Home Sweet Home Mugs

My plan is to live vicariously through people who can display such collections.
For now.
